Under the hot sun of Adria, Freddie Slater made another winning run in the Junior class in the RFM colours during the second round of the WSK Euro Series. Enea Frey was particularly effective on this terrain and put in a superb overall performance to join his team-mate on the third step of the podium. Once again, Ricky Flynn Motorsport was successful in taking all its drivers to the Final despite the intensity of the sporting confrontations.
The WSK Euro Series was back on track in Adria, more than two months after its launch in Lonato. With 64 participants in the OK-Junior category, the field was not lacking in talent, while the OK category appeared to be slightly less competitive. There was good weather for the competition in mid-June and the temperatures approached 30° for the first time this season.
Freddie Slater was again prominent after his 5th position in Qualifying. Three times victorious in the heats, he moved up to 2nd on Saturday night and won his Prefinal against some newcomers who he relegated by several seconds. Freddie took the lead in the Final on the second lap and controlled his ambitious rivals to perfection to savour a great victory and his return to 2nd place in the Championship.
Swiss driver Enea Frey was the revelation of the weekend. He started with a good time in 8th position and followed it up with top performances in the heats: two wins, two top threes and two fastest laps in the race brought him back to 3rd place before the Final stages. He was again the fastest driver during his Prefinal, which he finished in 2nd position, and fought hard to finish 3rd in the Final. He made a spectacular jump to 5th place in the provisional ranking.
Dion Gowda came close to the top 10 at the end of the heats despite a complicated first race. Slightly dominated in the Prefinal, he drove a solid Final in 12th position under the chequered flag, but dropped back because of a loose spoiler. Maxim Rehm’s efforts to make up ground in the heats were wiped out by a heavy penalty for being forced to leave the track. The young German made up for it in 7th place in his Prefinal where he was the fastest. He fought bravely in the middle of the pack in the Final, but a dropped spoiler did not help his result. Salim Hanna also qualified very well and started with two good heats before suffering a retirement and two spoiler penalties. Highly motivated, he nevertheless managed to qualify by coming back to 13th in his Prefinal and finished the race on the same pace in the Final.
Rintaro Sato undoubtedly benefited from a smaller than usual field in OK, but his good 6th position in the Final also owes a lot to his evolution. 9th in Qualifying, he managed his heats well, making a strong comeback in the third to compensate for his loss of ground in the previous outing. 8th in the Prefinal, he finally reached 6th position and entered the top 10 of the series ranking.
